BC Music Festival Collective History

The BC Music Festival Collective (BCMFC) is an alliance that emerged in April 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic to unify and represent British Columbia’s diverse music festival industry. BCMFC convened crucial conversations and took concerted action, especially in the form of surveys and Economic Reports, in response to COVID and presented a cohesive voice and industry partnership to government seeking to redress the serious impacts of COVID.

The BCMFC encompasses a broad spectrum of members, including non-profits, for-profits, and festivals of various genres and sizes from across the province, open to all music festivals in British Columbia. Officially acknowledged by the Province of BC as the Industry Representative for Festivals, our reach extends to over 110 festivals.

BCMFC festivals take place in small communities and large metropolitan areas and represent all regions and all genres of music including folk, Indigenous, electronic, blues, jazz, rock, ska, pop and indie. There are over 115 music festivals represented by the BCMFC and 75 of those listed on our website. Our members include non-profits, for-profits and charitable organizations and membership is open to any music festival based in BC. The BCMFC has met monthly since it formed in 2020, had two Symposiums (Kelowna; Victoria), provided multiple workshops and over twenty guest speakers, accomplishing much as a united front for music festivals in the province. The organization is a registered non-profit organization and is officially recognized, by the Province of BC, as the Industry Representative for their sector.
